Holistic Management of Construction and Demolition Waste
Sarawak
Project Reference
OVERVIEW
Eco Ideal was appointed to consult on the holistic management of construction and demolition waste in Sarawak. The study established baseline data, reviewed existing practices and identified opportunities to improve recovery, recycling and resource efficiency.
CHALLENGE
Rapid development increased C&D waste while data, regulations and recycling markets remained limited. Low recovery rates and limited use of recycled materials hindered the growth of a circular and sustainable construction sector.
SOLUTION
The study reviewed legal and institutional requirements, evaluated technological solutions for C&D waste recovery and recycling, assessed potential economic instruments and explored the development of secondary material markets and standards.
OUTCOME
The project provided a strong foundation for improved C&D waste management through actionable recommendations, enabling reduced environmental impacts and supporting Sarawak’s transition towards a circular construction economy.
